ERC AdG Principal Investigators are expected to be active researchers and to have a track record of significant research achievements in the last 10 years which must be presented in the application. As an example: for a researcher applying to ERC-AdG-2020 call, his/her achievements since 1 January 2010 can be presented in the application.

If a Principal Investigator so chooses, his or her achievements over a longer period than the past ten years can be considered in circumstances like maternity, paternity leave, long-term illness or clinical qualification. For maternity, the track record considered can be extended by at least 18 months for each child born before or during the last ten years. If you are unsure about these dates, please contact us.

A competitive Advanced Grant Principal Investigator must have already shown a record which identifies them as an exceptional leader in terms of originality and significance of their research contributions.

Advanced Grants may be awarded up to a maximum of 2.5 Million Euros for a period of 5 years. However, this budget may go up to a maximum of 3.5 Million Euros to cover (a) eligible "start-up" costs for Principal Investigators moving to the EU or an Associated Country like Turkey from elsewhere as a consequence of receiving the ERC grant and/or (b) the purchase of major equipment (c) access to large facilities and/or (d) field work costs.

If you need more information please refer to the ERC Work Programme 2020 and Information for Applicants to the Advanced Grant 2020 Call documents.
