General & Introductory Training on Open Science & Research Data Management in Horizon Europe (On-line) with up to 200 participants was organised on 11th March 2021. The event was held under the “Turkey in Horizon 2020 Phase - II Project” which is co-financed by the EU and the Republic of Turkey and managed by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), within the framework of the Competitive Sectors Programme of the Ministry of Industry and Technology.


The third general introductory event within the scope of the project commenced with the opening speech by TUBITAK, Turkey in Horizon 2020 Phase-II Project Coordination Unit Officer, Mr Çağrı Yıldırım. Mr. Yıldırım underlined the importance of the event and the value of the participation of stakeholders in Turkey to organized events on Horizon European and handed the word over to Ms. Alea López de San Román from the European Commission's Open Science Unit to begin the session.


Alea López de San Román touched upon the Open Science policies of the European Union in general, referring to what Open Science means for the European Commission. After delivering information about the Horizon Europe Programme requirements within the scope of Open Science, Ms. López de San Román answered the questions of the participants. In the continuation of the event, Representative of OpenAire project in Turkey, Mr. Gültekin Gürdal from Izmir Institute of Technology delivered a presentation on Open Science and Open Access mandates and decisions in Europe and shared valuable information about the publishing process, peer reviews, and differences in the Open Access system in Horizon Europe with the participants. After mentioning the establishment of open access archive in Turkey and open access studies conducted along with the Higher Education Council, Mr. Gürdal stated the useful links for the participants and concluded his presentation.


In the continuation of the general introductory event, Ms. Elli Papadopoulou, Representative of the OpenAire project in Greece, made a comprehensive presentation on what the research data are and on the application of Open Science principles in research, workflows, tools, and tips that would be practical for the participants. Ms. Papadopoulou also concluded her presentation by sharing information and important resources on how to process data in research. Following the presentation of Ms. Papadopoulou, the event ended with a Question-and-Answer session.
