The LeakFree project targets at bringing to the market a low cost leak detection system that is fast, accurate, traceable and automated for mass production environments in the fuel tanks production industry. 

Tackling ‘grand’ or societal challenges

Vehicle fuel deposits are sent to the main industry with 100% leakage control. The industry standard accepts that controls are human-dependent. However, it is important to carry out a control that can carry life-threatening risks with an automatic and recordable method.The project aims to bring a new standard to the automotive industry. If the standard is adopted, sales in the global marketplace will also be easy.

Industrial Innovation (including innovation in services as well as products and processes)

The LeakFree system aims to develop a Quality Control system for Plastic fuel tanks in general. Hence, the productivity increase, the profitability enhancement and increase in turnover aimed at, will directly benefit the plastic manufacturing sector. The LeakFree product will be an automated system for leakage detection of fuel tanks in mass production environments. Provides increased leakage sensitivity than currently employed techniques and it is characterised by reduced investment and operational costs. It is traceable and can be integrated to an ERP system. The system aims to replace the techniques commonly employed by the industry, (a) visual bubble inspection technique, (b) HE technique and (c) pressure drop measurement technique.
